so why build a stormtrooper costume? because i can! and because it’s been a great way to meet some new friends who also love star wars (most of them waaay more than me). but one of the best reasons was to be able to contribute to charity events and be part of a larger group of enthusiasts that often volunteer their time and efforts towards some great causes. the hobby aspect of it is fun for me also, as i enjoy building things. and there’s nothing quite like building your own detailed costume replica of a classic star wars character. i hope to be able to ‘troop’ in more local events… as my friend who’s been doing it for a couple years told me, “it’s an amazing feeling when you show up at an event and see kids’ and adults’ faces light up, often those who are hospitalized or not well. they’ll say you’ve made their day, and all you’ve done is put on your costume and be there.”

TK-5929 refers to my membership number in the 501st legion, which has over 5,000 members worldwide. our western canada chapter is the badlands garrison which was started in 2004 and has over 60 members that participate in many community events and support charities that include Children’s Hospitals, Ronald McDonald House, the MS Society and others.
