so we finally got a chance to see Avatar. it was our third attempt, but well worth it in the end. our first attempt was on boxing day. big mistake. bought tickets ahead of time, but couldn’t find parking in time. too many fobs shopping for deals. the next time we went early on a date night, but all the early shows were sold out by 4pm that day. third time we got smart and got tickets ahead of time online and then arrived early to line-up.
did you like it? i thought it was very svelte. james cameron doesn’t just make movies, he seems to change the way we watch them. i’m reading this article in my Wired about how he developed a new camera in collaboration with Sony to be able to see the cg background stuff on a monitor attached to the camera as he’s filming the live action. i’m also reading it cost $250 million, with $150 million for marketing. but no big deal. apparently it only took 17 days to reach $1 billion in box office receipts (yes, the more expensive 3D tickets helped i’m sure).
favorite part? for me, probably the “i see you’s” near the end. worst part? besides having to pee like an hour before it ended, um, leaving the cinema wondering if i was listening to celine dion singing. found out later it’s actually leona lewis. phew. but she did work with the composer and producer behind “my heart will go on.”
