obama wins!

did you watch the election results last nite? we were out for dinner and some errands but it seemed like coverage was on every TV set in stores (next to the canucks game!). after we got home, we caught the victory speech from chicago, and i was quite amazed at the expression on people’s faces as they watched live, with tears and what seemed like desperate waiting for every word coming from his lips. you could sense the hope that people were emitting with their cheers and faces! how did you feel as you watched? btw, if you didn’t see it, there’s a link to it on youtube…

I thought it was quite moving! If a leader can make people feel this way hope, we have a true leader, haven't seen this since the Kennedy era, I think he brings about a humanistic approach to governing and knowing what the people want.
Living in the states for the last four years, one sees that this country needs a leader like Obama and it gives people hope that his strong beliefs will bring about change. It's not about him being African American (that's for the history books) but that that his views, beliefs and intelligence will help the people in bringing and restoring what was lost by the Bush Administration.....

I watched the speech at a one of NYC's largest rallies. It was around the corner from my apartment in Harlem. We watched most of the coverage at home and then ran down the block to see Obama's acceptance speech on the big screen. It was electrifying and certainly a moment I'll never forget. The streets were packed with inspired and overjoyed folks. I'm not lying when I tell you the honking and celebrating lasted all through the night! Today at work, my third-graders wanted to talk about Obama all day - they now all plan to be president when they grow up!

wow! thanks for your comments, guys. it's cool to hear what it was like for y'all last night and you both bring up some great points.

tamara, your last point reminds of a 2hr cbc documentary i watched last week on w's career til now; it was pretty objective throughout and just highlighted moments in his rise and presidency, even making you feel sorry him especially after 9/11. but then it ended suprisingly, basically saying america will look back on this president as the one that 'messed things up' and his legacy leaves much to be fixed.

pammy, i like how you used the word 'electrifying'. even on tv, across the continent, we could sense the buzz, so i can't imagine how much more powerful it must have been in person!

    Hi Kim!

Well the speech was amazing as is this new leader for the US. My grand-parents were Americans, my father is first generation Canadian. This was an amazing night for Obama and all people of colour. Times are a changing, and Martin Luther King said, I have a dream. We are much much closer to that dream than ever before, I am thankful the world has such a leader to take us closer to that dream. I cried too, I couldn't help but not, so much negativity of the past, always fighting to stay ahead to be thought of as equal, this was a true victory in every sense of the world. I ask you all to pray for this man Obama, he will need it in the days to come - no one said this job would be easy. I pray for safety for Obama and his family, and all those around him as he continues on his historical journey. Amen!
